Guidance and Control
NTA has a proven track record of designing and testing guidance and control (G&C) systems for precision weapons. Our expertise covers the entire G&C spectrum, from autopilot design to actuator fabrication.
Areas of Expertise
NTA supports autopilot and guidance design activities for multiple US Army systems. Our contributions begin with algorithm development, continue through software implementation, and culminate with system-level performance testing. We utilize cutting-edge mathematical and computational techniques to help our customers achieve their mission objectives.
NTA supports control actuation system (CAS) design, fabrication, and tuning for both hardware and software domains for multiple US Army missile science and technology programs. NTA has expertise in designing the mechanical, electrical, and software components for CAS systems. NTA’s expertise includes designing CAS systems with brushless DC (BLDC) motor-controlled actuators and control electronics. Actuators and control electronics are designed, developed, validated, tested, and delivered to the customer. NTA is involved from the requirement definition stage to prototypes. NTA engineers accomplish system designs through the use of design software including SolidWorks, Altium, Code Composer, and Xilinx Vivado Design Suite. NTA engineers have CAS experience in the following areas:
- Developing standalone test beds for testing, tuning, and validating CAS designs.
- Tuning CAS software control algorithms to meet system requirements defined by host missile systems.
- Utilizing thermal batteries to power CAS systems during flight to include design and integration of control electronics required to activate the batteries.
- Developing detailed software models for CAS designs that are operated as standalone software models and integrated into larger 6DOF simulations.
- Developing test beds for CAS systems for fielded US Army missile systems such as Hellfire and GMLRS.
- Utilizing test beds for third party testing and validation for stockpile reliability programs and to test engineering units for developmental variants of the fielded systems.
NTA has over 20 years of experience in developing custom fire control solutions in support of platform emulation and live-fire demonstrations for Army, Navy, and Air Force programs. NTA has utilized its knowledge of the various M299 launcher variants and their associated interfaces to deliver reliable fire control systems that add an additional layer of system safety to the redundant weapon system safety features. Our knowledge of MIL-STD-1760 and MIL-STD-1553 has allowed for the timely delivery of custom fire control solutions to our customers.
