NTA has been involved with the design and deployment of the Hellfire weapon system, and its variants, for approximately 20 years. This includes applying expertise in modeling development, seeker technology, airframe stabilization, guidance algorithms and sensor characterization. Originating from the war on terror, Hellfire has become the first choice in air-to-ground weapons when low-collateral, surgical precision is required. NTA continues to provide essential support as new requirements are identified to meet specific capability gaps in a dynamic environment. Recent examples include motor and aerodynamic optimization as well as consideration of alternate sensor, actuation and warhead technologies. NTA developed a standalone test bed for the legacy pneumatic Hellfire CAS system and also for the newly-designed electromagnetic CAS (EMCAS) variant.
